Islamabad Supports Iran’s Mediation Initiative

Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry says Islamabad welcomes Iran’s offer to mediate between Pakistan and the Taliban. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi said Pakistan values Iran’s diplomatic role and considers Tehran a “brotherly and friendly nation.”

Andrabi noted that Pakistan appreciates Iran’s renewed willingness to host a regional meeting aimed at reducing tensions with the Taliban. He said Pakistan supports peaceful solutions and prefers diplomacy over confrontation.

Cross-Border Terrorism at the Center of the Dispute

Pakistan has urged the Taliban to take firm action against Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which has carried out several cross-border attacks in recent months. According to Andrabi, Iran can help start meaningful dialogue because it maintains relations with both sides.

He stressed that Pakistan holds a strong legal and political position regarding terrorism originating from Afghan territory. “Usually, the weaker party rejects mediation,” he said. “But in this case, Pakistan’s position is very strong.”

Relations between Islamabad and the Taliban have worsened due to increased TTP attacks and Pakistani airstrikes inside Afghanistan in response.

Regional Diplomacy Gains Momentum

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran plans to organize a regional meeting to ease tensions between Kabul and Islamabad. His comments came after the third round of Pakistan–Taliban talks in Istanbul ended without progress. Negotiators failed to reach agreement on security measures to curb cross-border militancy.

The situation has drawn attention from regional powers, including Turkey. Leaders have urged both sides to settle disputes through dialogue to prevent further instability.

The issue remains under close regional watch as tensions continue to rise along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
