Pakistan political leaders have criticised military policy towards Afghanistan as tensions between the two countries continue.

The criticism comes amid concerns over cross-border actions and uncertainty surrounding a temporary ceasefire.

Political criticism grows

Sohail Afridi, Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, said the army’s unilateral decisions are unacceptable to the public. He added that citizens have the right to question policies affecting relations with neighbouring countries.

He also said criticism of Afghanistan-related decisions is often dismissed, raising concerns about transparency.

Calls for sovereignty and dialogue

Meanwhile, leaders from the Movement for the Protection of the Constitution of Pakistan stressed the need to respect Afghanistan’s sovereignty.

Mahmood Khan Achakzai called for a peaceful resolution and urged both sides to reduce tensions through dialogue.

In addition, spokesperson Hussain Ahmad Yousafzai warned against any compromise on territorial integrity.

Diplomatic and international response

At the same time, Pakistan’s ambassador to Russia, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, said Moscow has been asked to mediate.

However, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar defended recent actions, saying Pakistan remains committed to addressing militant threats.

Meanwhile, the Financial Times urged the United States to pressure Pakistan’s military leadership to stop cross-border actions.

Ceasefire uncertainty

Uncertainty remains over the ceasefire as it nears its expected end. No clear timeline has been announced for an extension.

Meanwhile, tensions remain high following recent
rocket attacks in Kunar.
