Ali Reza Bikdeli, acting head of Iran’s embassy in Kabul, has said that more than 100,000 tonnes of goods have been transported via the rail network between Iran and Afghanistan since the start of the year 1405.
According to him, the shipments were carried out through rail links connecting the two countries and form part of bilateral trade flows.
The Khaf–Herat railway has been used in recent years as a transit route between Iran and Afghanistan. The line is considered an alternative to road transport for moving goods.
Officials from both countries have previously emphasised the expansion of transit cooperation and the need to increase rail transport capacity.
The remarks come as efforts continue to develop transport infrastructure and facilitate trade between Afghanistan and countries in the region.
